Human Ethics SmartForms employ a branching logic that allows certain questions to display only if specific answers have been checked. With SmartForms, you can create an interactive submission process versus a traditional static form. This helps the submitting user save time, and helps you make sure that the user is only inputting information applicable to their submission.
SmartForms offer two types of linking: displayed linking, and required linking.
- Displayed linking: When a certain answer is checked, another question will appear that is related to the checked answer.
- Required linking: When a certain answer is checked, another question related to the checked answer will become required.
Creating Linked Questions
- Edit your template.
- Create the two items you wish to link (Learn to create questions, finders, and text fields). You will be creating an initial question, and then a follow-up question based off a specific answer from the initial question.
- Highlight the answer that needs the follow up question by clicking on it. In the right-hand properties pane, scroll down to Links. Depending on whether you want the question to display, be required, or both, drag the from Displays or Requires to the follow-up question.
- Click , and then click to make sure that your link is displaying correctly.
Creating Linked Informative Texts
If you wish to inform users about an answer they choose, you can do so with links.
- Create your initial question. In the right-hand panel, click on the Items tab and drag the Information item to the answer you wish to explain further. This will nest the information.
- Click on Click here to add text. Type your informational text into the text box and click on the green check mark.
- Click on the answer to highlight it. In the right-hand properties pane, scroll down to Links. Drag the next to Displays to the informational text.
- Click , and then click to make sure that your link is displaying correctly.
Nesting Links
Using the instructions within the previous sections, you can nest links in a way that is relevant to your users. You can use linking to your advantage to create an educational experience, and help users create better submissions.
Creating Linked Sections
When building your SmartForm, you can decide which sections should be required for all submissions, and which are conditional based off of the user's answers in previous sections.
Linking sections works the same way as linking questions. Instead of dragging the to a follow-up question or informational text, you can drag it to a section. Upon the user selecting an answer on their submission form, the section will then appear.
