The following are best practice recommendations for when to create a new award versus when to modify an award.
Create a new award on a project when the following apply:
-
You are working on a new Sponsored Project and a new proposal has been funded by the sponsor
-
New money is received from an existing sponsor (i.e. the sponsor’s award number and/or the CFDA number on a new increment of funding has changed, signifying a new source of funds)
-
There is an additional Sponsor on an existing Project (i.e. a multi-sponsor project funded by multiple sources that is tracked as a single Project)
Create an award modification when the following apply:
-
You have a no cost time extension
-
There is a new funding increment
-
There is a change in the PI/Research team
-
The scope of the project has changed
- Other administrative changes occur that require documentation
