This article outlines the step-by-step process to transfer cage card pain levels within the same protocol. It also provides guidance on verifying updates through Cage Card Search and the Protocol Register.
Requesting Pain Level Transfer

From the Animal Inventory Dashboard:

Update the user role to Animal Census Coordinator.

Open the Animal Inventory action menu (three dots).

Select Pain Level Transfer on Same Protocol.

Complete the required Transfer From information, then click Search:

Effective Date: Select the date when the pain level transfer should take effect.

Card Status: Use the dropdown to filter relevant cage cards.

Protocol Number: Enter and select the applicable protocol.

Species: Choose the species involved in the transfer.

Source Pain Category: Select the current pain category for the animals.

Complete the required Transfer To information, then click Transfer Selected Cards:

Target Pain Category: Select the new pain category for the transfer.

Cage Card Selection: Choose the cage cards to be transferred.

Number of Animals: Update to reflect the count in selected cages.

Adjust Protocol Register (Optional): Check this box to reflect updated animal balances in the Protocol Register.

Click OK to confirm and complete the transfer.
Confirming Transfer in Cage Card Search
Pain level transfer details can be verified by reviewing the cage card history in Cage Card Search and the corresponding balance updates in the Protocol Register.

Open the Action Menu and click Cage Search.

Complete the search filter information and click Search:

Card ID Filter: Select Card ID as the filter type.

Cage Card ID: Enter the ID of the cage card that was transferred.

Click the Cage Card ID hyperlink to open the card details.

Review the transfer log labeled "Pain Level Transfer - 1 Cage(s)". The Target column shows the updated pain category.
Step 4: Confirm Transfer in Protocol Register
To confirm the pain level transfer, switch to the Animal Buyer role to access the Protocol Register. Please note: The IACUC Office role also has access to the Protocol Register via Animal Oversight.
- From the Animal Inventory dashboard, update your role to Animal Buyer or IACUC Office.

Set the protocol from the Animal Procurement homepage and then click Register.

Click the Protocol Number hyperlink for the Source Pain Category.

Confirm the animal balance changes from the pain level transfer.

Repeat the above steps for the Target Pain Category to verify the corresponding balance updates.
