The Cayuse Animal Oversight and Vivarium Operations applications are designed to capture detailed information about animal breeding. These features are fully customizable, enabling animal research programs to adjust the terminology and options to align with their institutional procedures and policies.
Breeding Details
Within the Animal Oversight protocol form, programs can record breeding-related details. On the first page of the protocol, researchers are prompted to complete the Protocol Species Grid, where they specify the research activities for each species listed. One of the available options on this grid is “Breeding?”. When this activity is selected as “Yes” for a species, a “Breeding” section will automatically appear in the table of contents for that species.
Note: The screenshots below display the default fields in the protocol form.
The Breeding Information page in the Animal Oversight protocol form prompts researchers to specify whether transgenic animals will be bred and if a breeding colony will be established. Researchers can also detail the breeding schemes and monitoring processes in the provided table.
In the Animal Inventory application, vivarium staff can view a “Breeding?” column in the Request Options alert, which indicates whether a protocol has been approved for breeding.
Reports
The default breeding questions in the Animal Oversight form are included in reports, making them easily exportable and analyzable.
