I completed my enrollment report but it is saying that because of the type I chose that I can't have data in parts of the table or at all--everything I put in there is accurate, so what is its problem?
NIH recently rolled out these new Enrollment Report forms and with them a host of specific validations for making sure they are completed as expected. The most common error notifications we see are when the Enrollment Type is set to "Planned" but there is data in some of the table fields related to unknown demographic information.
In this situation the type has to change to something other than "Planned" or some participants need to be demographically categorized--unless their opportunity instructions or someone from the program states that they can designate as "Planned" without knowing any of the usually required information. When "Planned" is selected these highlighted fields become off-limits:
As you can see, there are really just four columns and six rows that are acceptable under standard guidelines.
If it is uncertain what the demographic information will be for participants due to the nature of the project, then you may consider saying "yes" to "Delayed onset study:" and then clearing out everything after that. Delayed onset does not allow for planning or attempted prediction, so all subsequent fields need to be empty. For more information on making this distinction visit this page and check out Scenario D. NIH also has this FAQ to help guide you through the form.
The only Enrollment Type that allows for entry into the "unknown/not reported" categories is Cumulative. Cumulative means that there has already been recruitment and that there are actual number to report. This can be both for an ongoing study and for looking at an existing dataset. Keep in mind that previously recruited participants are considered different from an existing data set so they should not influence the answer to the "Using an existing dataset or resource:"
A program officer is a great resource for figuring out how best to portray your planned or cumulative human subjects. Of course, if you have any other questions please feel free to get in contact with Cayuse Support.
