ADMIN USERS ONLY
In addition to their Cayuse 424 production environment, some institutions also have a Cayuse 424 training environment, or "training instance", which is available for new users to learn how Cayuse 424 works before they begin creating proposals in the production system and submitting them to Grants.gov for agency evaluation.
If you do have a training environment, there are a few things you should know in order to use and manage it effectively.
Where is it?
Usually your training environment will be located at https://institution-t.cayuse424.com/, where institution should be replaced by your institution's instance name. If you are a Cayuse SP customer as well, you may instead maintain your User Acceptance Testing (UAT) instance as your training environment, which would usually be found at https://institution-uat.cayuse424.com/.
Who can access it?
Depending on how your training environment was initially set up, it may contain only the Cayuse training users, or it may contain many of your own university users (as well, or instead of the training users). In general, the users included are not the same as those in your production instance, unless you make an effort to maintain them identically.
We recommend that, at a minimum, System Administrators have accounts in the training system, so that they can grant access to others as it is needed. For more on creating new users and their profiles, see Managing Users.
Where are my opportunities?
Training environments connect with the Grants.gov test server, rather than the Grants.gov production server, and so they do not have the same list of opportunities that you may be familiar with. Opportunities can be retrieved in the same way as they are in your production environment, but the opportunity numbers that are available will be different.
We recommend always downloading the NIH test opportunities under the CFDA number 93.855. This will download many opportunities that can be used to understand how to create proposals with common forms and requirements. You can also download specific opportunities as desired by searching for available opportunities on the Grants.gov test server and retrieving them as described above.
Can I submit proposals?
Yes! As with opportunities, submissions will go to the Grants.gov test server. Your training enivornment will most commonly be configured to use the Cayuse training certificate, which means that you can submit using your own institutional name, address, etc., but must use the Cayuse DUNS. If the DUNS you enter does not match the expected submission DUNS, you will see a validation error in the proposal.
Some institutions have their own training certificates, and if your training environment is configured this way, you can submit using your own DUNS and will probably not be able to submit using the Cayuse DUNS. In this case you should create an institutional profile for your institution, if one is not already present, and use that as the Organization when creating proposals.
It is safe to submit proposals to the Grants.gov test server, as it is completely separate from their production server accepting real proposal submissions. We recommend helping users become familiar with the process of submitting proposals and checking their status.
If you are having any trouble with submission in the training environment, contact Support.
